Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - Providence VFD responded to Interstae 485 Outer Loop for a single vehicle MVC. MEDIC 54 arrived and advised that there were no injuries involved but requested Engine 1 to continue in for investigation. E-1 arrived to find a single vehicle entangled in the cable barrier between the Inner and Outer Loop lanes. Both occupants were free but the vehicle sustained heavy damage. CMPD and IMAP remained on scene for NC SHP.
Sunday, March 23, 2008 - Providence VFD responded to the intersection of Weddington-Matthews Road and Cox Road for a MVC involving a single vehicle into a tree. Arriving units found a pick-up truck head on into a tree. The driver was the only occupant and suffered minor injuries. He was placed into spinal protocol as a precaution and transported to the hospital via Union EMS MED 59. NCSHP investigated.
Thursday, March 20, 2008 - Providence VFD and Waxhaw VFD responded mutual aid to Wesley Chapel VFD for a reported plane crash behind a residence on Stonehaven Drive in the Weddington Chase subdivision. First arriving Wesley Chapel units found a small, single engine aircraft crashed into a wooded area approximately 50 yards behind a residence. Extrication of the cockpit was performed but unfortunately, the pilot died of his injuries sustained in the crash. Providence provided rescue support, water supply, manpower and a landing zone for Med Center Air if medical transport had been needed. Numerous agencies were on scene investigating including Union County Sheriff's Department, Union County Fire Marshal's Office and Homeland Security Director, FAA and NTSB.

TRAINING SESSION
Monday, February 18, 2008 - Providence VFD held a rescue and extrication training drill at our station using vehicles that had been donated to us. The drill was instructed by FFII Will Sanburg of Charlotte Fire Department Rescue 3-B (and Providence part-time member). FF Sanburg instructed department members in the proper and various uses of our Paratech Rescue Struts in stabilizing overturned or compromised vehicles. Members first had to determine the best way to stabilize the vehicle using the struts and then perform extrication using our assortment of hydraulic and air tools.

Thursday, February 7, 2008 - Providence VFD responded with Wesley Chapel VFD for a report of three outbuildings on fire behind a residence next to 1516 Beulah Church Road. Arriving units found three buildings fully involved as well as surrounding woods and brush burning. The fire was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported. The homeowner had been burning leaves and went inside briefly. When he returned outside, he found the buildings involved in fire. The Union County Fire Marshal's Office investigated.
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - Early morning rain fell into freezing temperatures and caught many people off guard as roads became icy. Within an hours time, numerous wrecks occurred in Northern Union County and South-East Mecklenburg County. Providence VFD responded to the MVC below during this time. The silver Scion skidded off the roadway undamaged and the driver called her husband to come and assist her in getting back on the road. While on the phone with her husband, her vehicle was struck head-on by the Nissan that had lost control on the icy roadway. One minor injury was reported and that person was transported to Presbyterian Hospital Matthews by Union EMS.
Monday, January 14, 2008 - Providence VFD responded mutual aid to Stallings VFD for a reported structure fire at 3701 Matthews-Indian Trail Road. First due Stallings units found an outbuilding and vehicle in the rear of the address heavily involved in fire. Providence assisted with suppression, overhaul and water supply. The fire was investigated by the Union COunty Fire Marshal's Office. No firefighters were injured during operations.
